Scholarships & Awards

The Saudi Dental Society (SDS) gives three different types of Research Awards annually:

Young Dentist Research Awards (YDRA):

This category is limited to Dental Interns or for those who have successfully completed their Dental Internship Program within eighteen months on or before the deadline. Following an application process, the Award Committee will select up to six (6) finalists who will present their research entries in the coming SDS Conference/meeting. Each of the finalist will be given a certificate. After the oral presentations, cash awards and plaques will be given to any three-research projects that were submitted for that year and were judged to be the best.

Graduate Student Research Awards (GSRA):

This category is limited to graduate students who are currently enrolled in a dental specialty-training program or for those who have completed their training program within eighteen months on or before the deadline. Following an application process, the Award Committee will select up to six (6) finalists who will present their research entries at the SDS Conference/meeting. Each of the finalist will be given a certificate. After the oral presentations, cash awards and plaques will be given to any three-research projects that were submitted for that year and were judged to be the best.

Poster Presentation Awards (PPA):

This category is open to all Dental Students, Interns, Graduate Students, General Dentist or Dental Specialists who have submitted their entries to be presented during the 17th Saudi International Dental Congress and is accepted by the Scientific Committee as entries for the Poster Presentation. The best Poster Presentation for that year will receive a cash award and plaque.

2007 SDS YOUNG DENTIST RESEARCH AWARDS (YDRA)

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

ELIGIBILITY

  • 1. Entrants should either be a student member in SDS, who are currently enrolled in a dental internship program, or an active member of good standing in SDS; who have received their internship certificate within 18 months prior to the Young Dentist Research Awards (YDRA) application deadline.
  • 2. Previous individual entries to the competition will not be accepted.

SUBMISSION

  • 1. Manuscripts submission deadline: December 17, 2006. Any research study completed during undergraduate program or internship program shall be eligible. Published research and/or submitted for publication is still eligible for competition.
  • 2. In order to ensure efficient processing of your application, it is important that the necessary requirements are submitted all together as follows:
  • a) Typewritten abstract in English and Arabic (in separate forms).
  • b) Typewritten manuscript in English, not to exceed (10) pages in length.
  • c) Abridge CV (one-page) indicating the author's academic& scientific Degrees.
  • d) A properly labeled IBM-formatted diskette, which contains both the manuscript (English) and abstract (English and Arabic).
  • 3. The abstract format must be accomplished in the following manner.
  • a) Title should not exceed 10 words.
  • b) Author's names and degree(s) must be typewritten in capital letters. The name of the institution(s) must be enclosed in parenthesis.
  • c) The Abstract must describe the objectives, methods, results data and Statistical analysis [where appropriate] and conclusions. When typewritten, it must not exceed 200 words.
  • 4. If more than one author is involve, a written permission is required.
  • 5. Presenter should be the first author and must submit a one-page summary of his/her scientific and academic degrees.
  • 6. Applicant must submit official document(s) for verification of his/her eligibility: i.e. official letter from the dental school stating that he/she is an intern student or an official copy of his/her internship certificate signifying the date of graduation.
  • 7. A panel of judges will score submissions independently. The first six (6) highest scoring manuscripts will be considered as finalists. These finalists will be notified on the first week of January 2007.
  • 8. Finalists will be required to present a ten-minute summary of their papers at the next SDS Conference/Scientific meeting. Five minutes will be allowed for Question and Answer portion and discussion. The best three manuscripts and oral presentations will receive cash awards and plaques.

CRITERIA

The following criteria will be the basis in judging the manuscript entries:

  • 1. The research project must be applicable to dentistry field.
  • 2. The manuscript must be well organized and readable.
  • 3. The manuscript must contain abstract (as stated in submission instructions), objectives, methods, results and conclusions or summary.
  • 4. The manuscript must not be closely related to other submitted manuscripts with the same co-authors.
  • 5. The research problem must be well defined and its importance must be clear.
  • 6. The methods used must be obvious or indicated clearly.
  • 7. The data and statistical analysis must be adequate to evaluate the objectives.
  • 8. The results must be adequate and appropriate.
  • 9. The conclusions must bear the consequence of the methods and results.
  • 10. The conclusions are adequately qualified: i.e. the conclusions should have appropriate limitations as implied by the author.

2007 SDS GRADUATE STUDENT RESEARCH AWARDS (GSRA)

  • 2. Previous individual entries to the competition will not be accepted.

  • 1. Manuscripts submission deadline: December 17, 2006. Any research study completed during postgraduate program or residency program shall be eligible. Published research and/or submitted for publication is still eligible for competition.

2007 SDS Poster Presentation AWARDS (PPA)

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

ELIGIBILITY

Entrants must be members with good standing in SDS, and must either be Dental Students, Interns, Graduate Students, General Dentist or Dental Specialists who have submitted their papers for presentation during the 17th Saudi International Dental Congress and is accepted by the Scientific Committee as entry for Poster Presentation.

SUBMISSION

  • 1. Manuscripts submission deadline: December 17, 2006.
  • 2. Prior to submission of requirements for Oral / Poster presentations for the 17th Saudi International Dental Congress as laid out by the Scientific Committee, the following must be considered:
  • a. Research Paper, Case Report, Short Communication, etc... are eligible for competition.
  • b. Published researches and/or submitted for publications are still eligible for competition.
  • c. If more than one author is involve, a written permission is required.
  • d. Presenter must submit a one-page summary of his /her scientific and academic Degrees (i.e. CV).
  • 3. All correspondence should be submitted to the attention of:

CRITERIA

The following criteria will be the basis in judging poster presentation entries:

  • 1. The poster presentation content or design must be applicable to dentistry field.
  • 2. The illustration must be well laid out.
  • 3. The poster presentation must not be closely related to other submitted presentations with the same co-authors.
  • 4. The illustrations must be well defined and its importance must be clear.
  • 5. The illustrations must be graphically clear and understandable (figures and photographs must be professionally drawn and taken respectively).

The Saudi Dental Society was established in 1401H (1981G)




its actual activity started in Rajab 1408H (1988G) by forming a preparatory committee whose task was completed in Rajab 1410H




It is with great pleasure for me to be able to serve you as the President of the Saudi Dental Society for the term of 2010-2013.
